“Scouting pushes individuals outside their comfort zones and exposes them to new experiences.”-Hannah Wagner

Our History

“Scouting Through The Obstacles” grew out of love for two things: scouting and inclusion. Hannah saw there was a problem in her community and knew she could solve it. For her Girl Scout Gold Award project, she implemented a program that brings the scouting experience to kids, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities. Hannah has developed an 18-original badge curriculum and successfully launched as a pilot program in April 2021.

*Note: this program does not fall under Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or any other third-party organization.

The Girl Scout Gold Award

“Scouting Through The Obstacles” is a Girl Scout Gold Award project. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award a girl scout can earn. It is a community service project that aims to help solve a problem in the community. Girls must commit 8o hours to their project. Hannah has dedicated over 400 hours.

The Girl Behind The Gold

“Scouting Through The Obstacles” was founded by Ft. Lauderdale high school student Hannah. She has been a passionate Girl Scout for 11 years and loves working with students that have developmental disabilities. Aside from girl scouting, Hannah is the president for her school’s chapter of Best Buddies, which is the world's largest organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. After high school Hannah plans on pursuing a career in special education.
